concept: space miner - team 1

well this is based of a coment I got on roosterteeth from lukemckay (hoe-ray! 8D *excited*), "alien miner, that mines astroids. So he either has a space suit, or his body can survive the vacuum of space... so he mines asteroids for their mineral bounty"

This was an idea I really liked. Not just cuz I got it from an awesome artist, but because theres so many ways you can play with that and I just went to town on it! XD
Ended up going off the tracks and drawing some stuff thats irrelevant, but I cut em out and gonna post em in a scetch dump whenever.

Heres a short explanation of the characters for anyone interested. Didnt bother with background as much as functions and stuff. This is gonna be a lot of text because... well you probably know by now that I like to ramble and explain waaay too fucking much... gotta work on that.

1. Upper left corner.
Well that was really my third try that went anywhere. When I read the comment and got past my fangirl squee moment and started thinking bout it, I just ended up with a bunch of images of space bugs... so this is a space bug. More like a space slug... or space catterpillar thing.. with less limbs.

I made him more humanoid because thats what Im used to drawing and its hard getting out of that box. But anyways, his neck is thick like that because this species originate from a very hot "planet" without a proper athmosphere since its a fairly small planet. So they got several layers/rolls of rubberlike "skin" that is packed so densly it protects them from the vacum of space. Their face is protected by several thinner, but harder layers of shells that cover their "openings" in their face. They eat by opening one layer at a time to slowly move the food to their mouths. Being able to survive the vacum of space makes working as a asteroid miner pretty easy, since they dont need to buy expensive space suits and whatnot. They still need the space suit to keep them warm beacuse otherwise they might freeze to death or get into a hybernation like stasis and unable to work or protect themselves against potential attackers... the suit also protect against some ingury since theres lots of space pirates that want them moolahs they get from selling valuable minerals.

They can of course survive normal athmospheres like the one on earth, though they mainly breathe a mix of CO2 and CO and other gases, so they'd need a special breathing apparatus to survive on earth. The preassure difference on earth wouldnt bother them since theyre made to survive both high preassure and no preassure.

Dont know why I drew that really, but the face is like a helmet, so it cant show expression with the eyes. Their mouths are a lot like the caterpillars, licking away their foot with their sharp teethy tounge. Didnt draw that too well. But their eyes can move inside their "sockets" to show emotions like that... they can imitate human behaviour to show human like species their emotions, but mostly they comunicate by movement, skin pigmentation change (mostly changing uv-light reflecting patterns) and low frequency sound.

holy shit that was long... crap. hehe, I fail...

2. Blue dude
Well Im not sure what this is. Is it humanoid organic or robotic? We dont know. We know it glows a bright blue when active and it has machinery on its lower arms that allows it to melt metals with its hands, being able to melt and collect specific, valuable minerals. It can easily melt through a ships hull and attempt to "collect" whatever materia it can find there. Since its so small (human siced) and fast its hard to spot on most average radar and if a ship isnt prepared for this sort of thing then they're pretty fucked... but this blue little fellow isnt very agressive and will ignore most invaluable items it can find... like people and robots and whatnot. Exactly what it does with the minerals it collects is unclear.

3. upper right and middle right
two asteroid miners who got environmental shields protecting them from the vacum of space, though the guy to the upper right dont really need it as much since he dont got any exposed holes for mouth, nose, ears or anything like that and his skin is pretty thick and tough. The two work together, the bottom bloke melting the metals and analysing it to see if its the stuff they're looking for and the top guy gathering it with a vacumcleaner like gun-looking machine. The middle right dude is listening to music and no he is not a girl, I just gave him a thick breastplate for some reason. And yes, he is pretending to play a space air (or vacum) guitar. There isnt much more to these two, didnt think too much into em.

4. the bottom fellows.
These are some of the half assed scetches that I dont think will be done more than that, but maybe in the second "concept art" thing Im gonna post later sometime when I feel I got da time.
The one to the left there isnt much of a mystery to. Creepy looking dude using a giant drill to break down the metal/mineral deposits. He has several eyes and a tight space suit... or maybe not. It was late and I dont remember where I was going with that.
The one in the middle is one of the first I did. Space larva who is intelligent enough to utilize mining tools and sell the minerals for profit.
The one to the right is the only pure robot I got here... or is it? maybe more like a cyborg... kind of like a quarrian bee? lol maybe not, but Im not sure what I gave him a helmet for... probably cuz its easier than drawing proper eyes or goggles and stuff... oh well.

after drawing em I decided that most of these guys are gonna work together somehow, so there might be a group image coming up sometime later in the future if I dont forget about it... i needs bigger hard drive for meh brainz
